Self-inquiry CD - Track 4 - Who Am I? - Swami Shankarananda

Friday Apr 27, 2018
Swami Shankarananda guides us through a meditation called, 'Inquiry: Who am I?'
A quote from his book Self-inquiry reads; "Ramana Maharshi's method (of self-inquiry) begins with the questions, 'Am I my body?' Seeing clearly that I am not my body, the inquirer asks, 'Am I my senses, am I my mind?' and so on, discovering that the Self is separate from anything that can be named or objectified."
In this short meditation Swamiji guides us in bringing our awareness to these kinds of questions and seeing what arises inside.

On this track you investigate the thoughts and feelings in four of the seven chakras: the navel, the heart, the throat and the brow. This gives you an awareness of any tension and blocks you may be carrying and also puts you in touch with expanded and uplifting feelings.
I suggest that you try and listen to this meditation and the following healing meditation (Self-Inquiry CD - Track 2) every day during the time you read this book (Self-inquiry: Using Your Awareness To Unblock Your Life). Set aside 20 minutes daily. This will assist your practice and help develop Self-inquiry naturally.

Japa is the practice of silent mantra repetition either during meditation or outside of meditation. The mantra is a wonderful means of cultivating and strengthening the mind. There are many times in a day when your mind may tend towards negativity or worry. It is at such times that japa can be practised.

The mind is "many-pointed," like the spikes of a porcupine's coat. It jumps and moves in many directions. Your job is to focus the mind, to make it one-pointed, and to eliminate obtrusive thoughts. When you repeat the mantra watch your reactions. There will be a never-ending flow of thoughts and feelings. Watch them, and keep repeating the mantra. Meditation is the time when you can allow your thoughts to come and go. Sit as if you were watching a movie, wihiile lightly concentrating on repeating the mantra.
Swami Shankarananda repeats the enlivened mantra of the Sri Nityananda Lineage, 'Om Namah Shivaya,' from the CD of his best selling book Happy For No Good Reason. Purchase at The Sri Nityananda Ashram Book Shop.
